David, his friends and the neighbor’s yard.

Complete renovation of a duplex in Zaragoza

The renovation project was presented as a surprise implanted in an OUTSIDE PATIO. The pre-existence consisted of a barn on the first floor and a tiny dwelling on the second floor that had no connection between them. Its difficulty was its fragmentation and geometry, its virtue, however, a courtyard and the light that inhabited it.

The integral reform needed to enhance that light and, at the same time, to unite, dose and organize. The key was to organize around that courtyard and that sunlight so changeable by the CRONOS that governed it.

Client: David, his friends and the neighbor’s yard.
Surface area: 80m2
Condition: Complete
Timeline: July-September 2017
Location: Zaragoza, Spain
Type of work: Integral rehabilitation of a single-family house.
Construction price: 30.000€.

This is why MOLES was molded around this foreign yard and, based on the solar needs of the program, emerged.

The renovation was done by placing DAVID’s bedroom-study in the deepest part of the first floor because it was there, where the sun rose but did not disturb, in that place where silence always reigned. A private-public convertible and discreet cabin oriented to the waning sun and designed to adapt to the different casuistics and experiences of his DAVID, his now inseparable companion.

The public part of the house was located on the second floor. It was born from a spiral staircase that, with its layout, reshaped a kitchen, a bathroom and a living room where the light never failed. Likewise, the housing was left a blank space for DAVID’S FRIENDS.
